First posting from my new Blog

Alright, so I'm new at this and it might take me a while to get the hang of it. So here it goes. I'm going to use this blog as a daily journal of the happenings in my life and hopefully I can learn from it and grow more.

So this is what I did today. Last night I spent the night at my best friend Mark's house, because I was watching his two sons for the day and he went to a wedding. I woke up this morning around 9 am, packed up my xbox 360 video game console and came home. After I got home, I dug out an old 35mm camera, went and bought a new battery for it and film. My plans for today were originally that i was going to this spot in the woods in the next town over where there are some waterfalls with my friend Jessica to take some picture. I didn't hear from her by 1:30 so I decided to jump in my truck and take off for buttermilk falls. On the way there, the radio played some progressive rock that was on a mp3 cd that just happened to be in the cd player. With the windows down and my sunglasses on, I drove through the center of Bristol. Down route 6, past all the major businesses. To route 72 and up through the hills of Terryville. Meanwhile, having the windows rolled all the way down and my music playing at a respectful level. Parking once I reached the falls, I picked up my camera, grabbed my bag and set off through the woods. From my truck to the falls, there is a path with a wooden bridge that crosses a ravine. Momentarily, I stopped. Snapped a few photos and walked further into the woods. About 300 feet into the woods, I could hear the water flowing down the waterfalls. Peaceful, tranquil and settling was the whole area around the falls. Every so often, you could hear a bird call slightly in the distance. This was exactly what I needed. For the last few months, Ive been very stressed and this was the relaxing moment that Ive been waiting for. Snapping a few more photos, I walked around the woods. In the distance, I could see a few teenagers. Most likely smoking pot in the woods because they had no other place to go. Avoiding them, my moment of solitude was over. Its hard to feel at peace when people are around you that you don't know. I know I have problems with meeting people in a place that I don't go to often. Maybe its because I'm out of my element. Either way, I left there and drove around the back roads of Terryville for the next hour or so. A few years back, Terryville moved their high school to the other end of the town. Since I graduated in 99, I was curious to see what the new school looked like and decided to drive over and check it out. The building was completely massive compared to the High School that i went to in Terryville. Outside is a lit up LED sign that displayed the time and temp in bright red letters. Quite a change from what I was used to. The building itself was roughly about 4 times the size of the school I went to. Which isn't saying much, considering my graduating class was around 50 people. Needless to say, it is a very beautiful school. From there I drove on and noticed it was starting to get colder and decided to stop by my house and pick up a sweatshirt. As I was on the drive back home, I checked my mail through my phone and noticed that my friend Russo sent me a message that he has a photography text book and if I wanted it, I could have it. I then called him and we talked for a few minutes. He was saying that I should stop by and check out his new office sometime. I responded with "Well man, what are you doing now?" and he said "nothing man, why don't you head on down" It was settled and I was on my way to collinsville. When I got there, I was amazed at the building where his office was located. The building was an Ax & Sword factory, built in the late 1800's. The architecture was what you see on New England post cards. Red brick and wood exterior. Some of the panels were aged with metal overlapping with hints of rust around the edge. I called Russo and he came out to greet me on a razor scooter. He then brought me inside the building and gave me a tour. We walked down a hallway took a left then a right. His office was located at the end of the hallway on the right. Inside the office was two desks with computers and various office supplies. We talked for a few minutes about music. The conversations ranged from "Have you heard this band that sounds like coalesce?" or "Check out this band, they sounds like a mix between Botch and Burnt By The Sun." Basically, conversations about music that it seems like only him and I listen to. After checking out his office, he took me up to the attic of the building. Inside the attic, he pointed out how there was graffiti from the late 1800's in there. On one wall was written the temperature outside on new years eve of 1189 & 1890. One was 63, the other 65. The attic was a wreck but to see stuff like that, was something new. I don't believe Ive ever seen anything in real life that was that old besides exhibits at the Smithsonian. It really stuck with me. After leaving the attic, Russo gave me some tips on shooting photos such as exposure of film, using a timer or remote to keep the shot more steady, etc. We took a walk around the building and eventually ended up back where I parked. We then talked for a few minutes about a cemetery around the corner that would be cool to take a couple photos. I then packed up and headed home. Once I was home, I sat down at the computer and now here I am. Eating dinner and finishing up my first blog, trying to look forward to tomorrow. Trying to be optimistic. Hopefully more good will come in the future.
